Finally, we have made it into the lab! During lockdown, Anna has been busy designing the project database so we can start data collection. While we wait to be able to access our core collections, we are taking the opportunity to examine the St Mary’s collection from Coventry. These 18th century individuals have a variety of skeletal lesions typical of the Post Medieval period including tuberculosis, rickets and severe dental disease. Usefully for us, multiple males show evidence for pipe use in the form of notches and possible staining. Lots of interesting stuff in this collection so stay tuned!
